Iliyana Yotova: From Vice President to the First Female President of Bulgaria – A View from the Official Photo Archive

History is written before our eyes, and sometimes through our lens.

Today, Bulgaria opens a new page in its recent history. The inauguration of Iliyana Yotova as the first female president is not just a political change, but a symbol of continuity and statehood. As the official photographer of the Bulgarian Hotel and Restaurant Association (BHRA) for the past decade, I had the honor of documenting this journey up close.

📜 Chronicle of an Archive: From Vice President to President

My professional archive from the annual BHRA awards preserves footage that today acquires the status of historical documents. They capture the evolution of Ms. Yotova – from her active role as Vice President to today, when she assumes the highest office in the country.

For a photographer, there is no greater recognition than being the "eye" that documents the state elite during moments of official protocol. The presence of President Rumen Radev and the official ceremonies of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences are part of this ten-year chronicle that builds trust and prestige.

During these ceremonies, I have photographed not only the Bulgarian political elite, but also international personalities with key contributions to our country. One of the most impressive moments in my archive is the awarding of Elisabeth Bleicher from Switzerland.

As noted by the Bulgarian National Radio, Elizabeth's interest in Bulgaria began when she was 19 years old, provoked by our thousand-year history. Today, she is one of the strongest ambassadors of our country in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Her philosophy that "Bulgaria must remain authentic in order to intrigue European tourists"is in full sync with my aspiration to capture authenticity in every frame.

Particularly exciting to film was the moment on stage when Presidents Iliana Yotova and Rumen Radev and Elizabeth Bleyker shared the official recognition for her contributions to Bulgarian tourism.

📸 State protocol and my work as a photographer

Photographing personalities of such rank requires specific expertise. Here every movement is subject to strict etiquette. My work over the years has built a reflex for capturing the "invisible" moments - the gestures and gravity of official ceremonies.

Many ask me how this relates to weddings. The answer is simple: precision. Whether it is a president at an official event or newlyweds on their most important day in front of my lens, I apply the same discipline and responsibility. When you choose a wedding photographer Simeon Salov, you are choosing a professional trained in the school of state protocol - where every second is precious.
