There are moments in every family's life that leave a lasting impression – they are like a new conversation that begins and continues across generations.
Baptism is one of those priceless moments. It is more than a religious ritual – it is a symbol of purity, a new beginning and the unification of the family.
I am Simeon Salov – a baptism and family rituals in Sofia.
I have had the honor of capturing dozens of baptisms and I know that the magic of this day lies in the details, emotions and light.
The symbolism of baptism and the role of the baptism photographer

Immediately after the sacrament of Baptism, the priest hands the child over to his godmother. She wraps him in a new, white cloth, symbolizing purity and new life.

While wedding photography is focused on romance and the beginning of a life together,
baptism photography is centered on:
tenderness,
faith,
and the promise of the future.
Every element of the ceremony – from the white robe and candle to the oil and water – carries deep meaning.
The purity of the moment – baptism is a moment of purification and dedication.
This is one of the rare occasions when I see such sincere faith, hope, and love in the eyes of the parents and godparents. The promise of a future – this is the day when the child receives his spiritual name and a godfather, who makes a commitment to guide him through life.
For the family, this is a solemn holiday filled with much hope.
This is where the role of the professional baptism photographer - to capture these moments so that years later you can feel them again when you open the album.
What makes a good baptism photographer different?
An experienced baptism photographer knows that photos are much more than documenting an event.
For me the most important thing is:
to be discreet during the ritual,
to know the order of the ceremony,
to feel when to be close and when to give space.
There are parents who have told me:
"We chose you because the other photographers' photos look plastic - they have no life.
In you, we see emotions, smiles, natural moments."
That's exactly what I look for in every shot –
not just a pose, but life, emotion, and effortless joy.
Key moments to capture on the day of the baptism

One of the most powerful and emotional moments of holy baptism – the immersion in holy water. Baptism photography that is not afraid to show true emotions.
There are a few parts of the day that are a must-shoot for me when working as a baptism photographer:
1. Preparation
This is the moment before the big event:
dressing the child in the white clothes,
the embrace of parents,
the worries and smiles of the godparents,
the gifts waiting their turn.
This is where the cutest shots are often born –
little hands, bare feet, curious eyes that don't yet understand what's coming.
2. The ceremony in the church
The ceremony itself is full of emotions and symbols:
water baptism,
the anointing with oil,
cutting a lock of hair,
the walk around the font.
The faces of the godparents and parents, filled with excitement, are priceless.
My job as a baptism photographer is to capture all of this without interfering with the ritual.
One of the most powerful moments is the immersion in the holy water – a true culmination of the day.
I love shots that are not afraid to show the true emotions – of both the child and the adults.
3. The portraits after the ritual
After the ceremony is the perfect time to:
a family photo,
portraits with the godparents,
shots with grandparents.
These photos are the kind that stay framed on the walls and are passed down over time.
4. The celebration afterwards
Whether the holiday is:
in a restaurant,
at home,
at a more intimate gathering,
This is the time for more casual photos:
children's smiles and games,
family conversations,
laughter, cheers, gifts, cake.
Here the photos are freer, but no less important –
they show the atmosphere of the entire day.
A large-scale group photo that brings together all the guests and relatives who attended the baptism – this is a memory that will bring that day back again and again.
"The New Conversation" – Why Baptism Photos Are So Valuable

One of the most authentic moments captured in black and white – the childlike wonder and pure emotion. A baptism photoshoot that tells the stories of all the guests.
Baptism photos aren't just files on a computer or a folder on your phone.
They're a storythat will be told again and again.
When the child grows up:
you will show him the footage from the baptism,
You will tell him who held him in your arms, who became his godfather,
how everyone enjoyed that day.
This is one of the most important "conversations" you will have with him.
And good baptism photography will be your strongest assistant in this conversation.
After all, when you hire a baptism photographer, you're not just investing in a service.
You're investing in preserving one of your family's most important memories.
Why choose me as your baptism photographer?
As a baptism and family ceremony photographer, I believe in three simple things:
to shoot live, emotional shots, not plastic poses;
to be discreet and respectful of the ritual and the family's faith;
to tell the story of the day so that years from now you can feel it again when you open the album.
If you have a baptism coming up and are looking for a photographer who can get into the rhythm of the celebration, capture the real moments, and leave you with a memory for a lifetime - I will be happy to be by your side with a camera in hand.
