Night Stage Photography: DARA Live in Sofia
When it comes to the contemporary pop scene in Bulgaria, few names carry the charge that DARA possesses. For a professional photographer, concerts are not just events, but a battlefield of light, shadows and speed. One of the many performances of the Bulgarian music fury at the Maimunarnika club (Sofia) was the perfect example of this.

As a stage and event photographer, my job is often to “freeze” time where it flows the fastest. Photographing a performer like DARA is a challenge that requires complete concentration. She doesn’t just sing – she experiences every note with her body, moving constantly and interacting with her team with dizzying dynamics.

Why black and white photography? In this series of shots, I chose to remove the distracting colors of the spotlights, so that only the essence remains – the emotion. The contrast between the darkness of nighttime Sofia and the dazzling stage lights (backlight) outlines the silhouettes and emphasizes the drama of the performance.

Location: Maimunarnika The iconic stage in the heart of Borisova Gradina is a place with its own character. The atmosphere there is always saturated with electricity, and the open space allows the sound and energy to flow freely. It was a pleasure for me to capture this symbiosis between a young, talented artist and one of the most iconic stages in the capital.

The dynamics of concerts and shooting in difficult lighting conditions are very similar to my work as a wedding photographer during the evening party – you are not allowed a second take. You have to anticipate the moment before it happens. This reflex from the big stage is invaluable and is what I bring to every project I do, whether it is a large-scale concert or a personal celebration.
